Free Conversational English Classes

Join us on Wednesday evenings from September through mid May at 6:30pm for free Conversational English Classes.

We are excited to welcome you to our Conversational English program!

Our goal this year is to help you feel more comfortable speaking English. We will spend more time talking and having conversations with other students. You will have many opportunities to practice English in a friendly and welcoming environment.

You do not need to speak perfect English. Come, listen, ask questions, and practice! We are happy to have you join us.

What to expect when you arrive

Your First Visit

When you arrive, please go to the Info Desk to register.

On your first visit, we will do a short assessment to help us find the best group for you. You do not need to come on the first day of the program. You can join us at any time. If you cannot come on the first day, we will do your assessment when you first arrive.

Your Second Visit

When you arrive, please stop at the Info Desk to check in. You will be given your group assignment and shown where to meet your group.

This year, most groups will meet around round tables in the lobby. We want to create a comfortable, friendly, café-style environment where everyone can relax, meet new people, and practice English through conversation.

Our Groups

Intro / Level 1

This group is for students who are new to speaking English.

We will:

  • Learn new words and phrases
  • Practice saying the words
  • Ask and answer simple questions
  • Practice short conversations

This is a great place to begin if you are just starting to learn English.

Level 2 / 3

This group is for intermediate students who speak some English and feel comfortable having short conversations.

We will practice:

  • Vocabulary
  • Grammar
  • Pronunciation
  • Everyday conversations
  • Speaking and listening

The goal is to help you become more comfortable and confident when speaking English.

Level 4 / 5 – Classroom Style

This group is for students who prefer a classroom-style learning environment.

Students in this group are comfortable speaking English and want to continue improving their vocabulary, grammar, and speaking skills.

We will use:

  • Conversation
  • Games
  • Conversation cards
  • Discussion activities
  • Other activities to encourage speaking

Level 4 – Book Club

This group uses a book club to practice conversational English.

The book for this session is Upward Bound by Woody Brown.

Students will read portions of the book and make notes about words, phrases, or questions they do not understand. During the Wednesday evening meeting, we will talk about the book, ask questions, learn new vocabulary, and practice speaking English together.

Level 5 – Book Club

This group also uses a book club to practice conversational English.

The book for this session is Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo.

Students will read portions of the book and make notes about words, phrases, or questions they have. During the Wednesday evening meeting, we will discuss the book, learn new vocabulary, and enjoy conversations together.
